What is White Gold?
When Gold is mined it is 24 carat pure, bright yellow and very soft.
Gold is mixed with other alloys to achieve a quality that meets up to the resistance of every-day wear.
18carat gold means the total gold content has to be at least 75% pure. It then achieves the ".750" gold mark from the British assay office.
The colour that gold exhibits is dependant on the alloys used in the processing. 18ct white gold has a higher palladium (white alloy)content.
However being 75% pure gold means it will still exhibit a slight yellow tinge.

What is a Diamond?
A diamond is the most enduring of all gemstones. There are 4 main factors to take into account when we at Thomas Kettle choose a suitable diamond:
The Cut:
This has more bearing on the quality of the diamond then any other factor. Great skill is needed to get the best from each stone, in the process a diamond can loose upto 50% of its original size. Although this important factor is not measured in the same way as clarity, colour and weight, a well cut diamond will manifest itself in its overall appearance, particularly the brilliance and spectral colours of light it exhibits.
Clarity:
A diamond is the purest of the gemstones and it is composed purely of carbon. All diamonds will contain small traces of carbon not crystallized that under an eyeglass will appear as small black dots or feathery streaks. These flaws are known as inclusions and mean that no two diamonds are the same. Its worth noting however, that in a good quality diamond these inclusions are not visible to the naked eye, but the more inclusions the more interference with the light reflection and ultimately the brilliance of the diamond.
The clarity of a diamond is measured under 10x magnification by the following table:
FL= Flawless
IF= Internally flawless
VVS1, VVS2= Very, very small inclusions
VS1, VS2= Very small inclusions
SI1, SI2= Small inclusions
With all these grades the inclusions noted would not be visible to the naked eye.
Colour:
The colour of a diamond refers to the presence of colour the stone exhibits from the purest colour of blue white. The colour of a diamond is measured in letters from the purest colour; D to M which exhibits a slight yellow tinge, down to Z. Letters D to J will provide a clear white diamond.
Carat:
A diamonds weight is measured in carats. The carat is also divided into "points"; 100 points = 1 carat. The carat weight is an important factor when considering your engagement ring, as it plays an important part in the overall design and look of the final product
What is Platinum?
Platinum is the world most precious metal. Platinum's natural colour is white, gold's natural Colour is yellow and in the case of white gold its Colour is achieved by adding other alloys.
Platinum is twenty times rarer than gold and is far more difficult to mine and refine.Like all polished metals Platinum does scratch.
Platinum's purity means it is a non-allergy metal and never tarnishes.
Platinum is of a higher density than 18ct gold being 30% heavier, Platinum also has a higher melting point (1768 degrees centigrade compared to 1063 for gold).
Platinum presents its own idiosyncrasies as a metal and because of this requires a high degree of accomplishment and skill. This means Platinum is beyond the range of all but the most experienced craftsmen.
